ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum Betatrophin levels and metabolic parameters in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) .Methods:98 patients with PCOS (PCOS group) treated in Zhengzhou People’s Hospital from Dec. 2017 to Sep. 2019 were selected. They were divided into non-obese group ( n=45) and obese group ( n=53) according to BMI value; They were divided into non-IR group ( n= 21) and IR group ( n=77) according to HOMA-IR value; They were divided into non-hyperandrogen group ( n=24) and hyperandrogen group ( n=74) according to TT level; Another 90 healthy women were taken as the control group. The baseline data, lipid metabolism indexes, hormone indexes, glucose metabolism indexes and Betatrophin levels of the two groups were recorded. Pearson test and logisitc regression model were used to analyze the influencing factors related to the increase of serum Betatrophin level in patients with PCOS. Results:Compared with the control group, PCOS group had higher level of BMI, body fat, WHR, VLDL, LDL, TG, TC, FAI, TT, LH, DHEA-S, 17-OHP, FSH, FBG, FINS, and HOMA-IR, while the HDL level was significantly lower. The difference was significant ( P<0.01). Serum Betatrophin level in obese group was significantly higher than that in the control group (163.99±126.97 vs 110.99±102.97), and the difference was statistically significant ( t=3.21, P<0.001) ; serum Betatrophin level in IR group was higher than that in the control group (160.26±136.80 vs 133.17±112.06), and the serum Betatrophin level in IR group was higher than that in the control group (173.51±147.85 vs 144.26±124.56), but the difference was not statistically significant ( P>0.05). Serum Betatrophin levels in PCOS group were positively correlated with BMI, WHR, TG, FAI, FBG, FINS ( P<0.05), and negatively correlated with HDL ( P<0.05). Logistic analysis showed that BMI, WHR and TG were independent factors affecting the increase of serum Betatrophin level. Conclusion:Serum Betatrophin levels of PCOS patients are significantly increased, and BMI, WHR, TG, HDL, FAI, FBG, FINS may play an important role in the occurrence and development of PCOS and obesity, insulin resistance, blood lipids and androgen metabolism disorders.

ABSTRACT

Human chromosomes karyotyping is an important means to diagnose genetic diseases. Chromosome image type recognition is a key step in the karyotyping process. Accurate and efficient identification is of great significance for automatic chromosome karyotyping. In this paper, we propose a model named segmentally recalibrated dense convolutional network (SR-DenseNet). In each stage of the model, the dense connected network layers is used to extract the features of different abstract levels of chromosomes automatically, and then the concatenation of all the layers which extract different local features is recalibrated with squeeze-and-excitation (SE) block. SE blocks explicitly construct learnable structures for importance of the features. Then a model fusion method is proposed and an expert group of chromosome recognition models is constructed. On the public available Copenhagen chromosome recognition dataset (G-bands) the proposed model achieves error rate of only 1.60%, and with model fusion the error further drops to 0.99%. On the Padova chromosome dataset (Q-bands) the model gets the corresponding error rate of 6.67%, and with model fusion the error further drops to 5.98%. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper is effective and has the potential to realize the automation of chromosome type recognition.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of B7H3 in neuroblastoma(NB)tissues and its relation_ship between clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients. Methods The clinical data and pathological wax of 100 cases with neuroblastoma admitted from January 2000 to December 2015 in Sun Yet_Sen University Cancer Center were collected. (4)B7H3 negative and positive 4-year event free survival (EFS) rates of 100 patients were 89.5% and 19.9% (χ2=31.260, P<0.001), 4-year overall survival(OS) rates were 94.7% and 48.3% (χ2=20.212, P<0.001), for 33 non-high-risk patients, B7H3 negative and positive 4-year EFS rates were 100.0% and 47.3% (χ2=8.760, P=0.003), and 4-year OS rates were 100.0% and 93.8% (χ2=1.063, P=0.003), respectively.Sixty-seven high-risk patients with B7H3 negative and positive 4-year EFS were 50.0% and 15.4% (χ2=4.093, P=0.043), 4-year OS were 75.0% and 42.0%, respectively (χ2=1.872, P=0.171). ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the relationship between expression of programmed cell death ligand-1(PD-L1) in the tissue of neuroblastoma (NB) and patient's clinical characteristics and prognosis.@*Methods@#Clinical data and surgical tissue paraffin blocks of 100 newly diagnosed NB children at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between January 2000 and December 2015 were collected and the expression level of PD-L1 and its' relationship with pathological parameters and survival rate were analyzed retrospectively. The ratio between groups was compared by chi-square test. Kaplan-Meier method was used for survival analysis and COX regression model was used for multivariate analysis.@*Results@#Among 100 cases, 71 were males and 29 females; there were 5 cases of stageⅠ, 4 cases of stageⅡ, 19 cases of stage Ⅲ, 65 cases of stage Ⅳ and 7 cases of stage Ⅳs. Ten out of 62 cases (16%) were N-MYC amplified; 15 cases were in low-risk group, 18 were in medium-risk group and 67 were in high-risk group. The positive rate of PD-L1 in NB tumor tissue was 57% (57/100), of which 55 were weakly positive, 1 was moderately positive and 1 was strongly positive. The positive rates of PD-L1 expression in tumor tissues without bone metastasis were higher than those with bone metastasis(66%(39/59)vs.44%(18/41), χ2=4.864, P=0.027), the positive rates of PD-L1 expression in tumor tissues pathologically diagnosed as neuroblastoma were higher than those pathologically diagnosed as ganglioneuroblastoma (61%(53/87) vs.31%(4/13), χ2=4.195, P=0.041), the positive rates of PD-L1 expression in tumor tissues originated from abdominal cavity were higher than those originated from other places (61% (51/83)vs.35%(6/17), χ2=3.937,P=0.047).The 4-year event-free survival (EFS) rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 40% and 33% (χ2=0.009, P=0.923), respectively. The 4-year overall survival (OS) rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 62% and 58% (χ2=0.294, P=0.587). Among 33 non-high-risk patients, the 4-year EFS rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 89% and 78% (χ2=0.001, P=0.965), the 4-year OS rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 100% and 96% (χ2=0.500, P=0.480). Among 67 high-risk patients, the 4-year EFS rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 24% and 11% (χ2=1.154, P=0.282), the 4-year OS rates of patients with PD-L1 negative and positive were 48% and 41% (χ2=0.692, P=0.405). Multivariate analysis showed that N-MYC gene amplification was an independent adverse prognostic factor for OS and EFS rates of NB patients (RR: 1.726,95%CI:1.209-2.466; RR:1.326,95%CI:1.014-1.736) and advanced clinical stage was an independent adverse prognostic factor for EFS rates of NB patients (RR: 26.498, 95%CI:3.518-199.614).@*Conclusions@#The expression of PD-L1 in NB tumor tissues was correlated with the clinical characteristics of children. However, there were no significant differences in the prognosis of patients with or without PD-L1 expression.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the impact of intensified maintenance therapy on the prognosis of children and adolescents with advanced lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) .@*Methods@#Retrospective analysis on the treatment results of children and adolescents with stage Ⅲ and stage Ⅳ LBL who underwent BFM-NHL-90/-95 regimen without prophylactic radiotherapy. The intensified therapy group included the patients admitted from 1998 to 2005, while others were classified as the non-intensified therapy group. Patients in the intensified therapy group were intravenously treated with "etoposide phosphate plus cytrarabine" and high-dose methotrexate alternately per 2.5-3 months in addition to the oral chemotherapy with 6-mercaptopurine and methotrexate during the maintenance phase.@*Results@#A total of 187 LBL patients were enrolled. The rates of 5-year event free survival were (76.9 ± 5.8) % and (77.9 ± 4.3) % (χ2=0.249, P=0.617) respectively, in the intensified therapy (n=52) and the non-intensified therapy groups (n=135) , while the rates of 5-year overall survival of them were (78.8 ± 5.7) % and (79.8±4.1) % (χ2=0.353, P=0.552) , respectively. Stratified by stage, immunological type as well as risk stratification, the rates of long-term survival were similar between the two groups. During the maintenance phase, the rates of grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ myelosuppression in the intensified therapy and the non-intensified maintenance groups were 55.8% and 18.5%, respectively (χ2=25.363, P<0.05) .@*Conclusion@#Intensified maintenance therapy failed to improve the prognosis of patients with advanced LBL.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of impulse noise expose on the expression of growth associated protein 43(Gap-43) in inferior colliculus in rat.Methods SPF grade Male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups.The normal control group received noise exposure.The model groups received an averange impulse noise exposure of 156 dB SPL with a pulse duration of 0.23 ms, once for 6 s, for 50 times.Auditory brainstem responses (ABRs) were measured before and 3,7,14, and 28 d after noise exposure with tone pips of 2,4,8,16, and 32 kHz, from 20 to 110 dB SPL.Bilateral inferior colliculus of rats in the model groups was collected and treated by immunohistochemical staining.Gap-43 expression of rats in different groups was measured by determining the gray value of inferior immunohistochemical images.Results After noise exposure, ABRs threshold in the model groups were significantly higher than those of in the normal group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).ABRs threshold at 14 and 28 days after noise exposure were significantly lower than 3 days after impulse exposure (P<0.05).Expression of Gap-43 in inferior colliculus was significantly up-regulated in the noise exposed groups compared with the normal group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).Expression of Gap-43 was significantly down-regulated 28 days after noise expose compared with 3 days after noise expose(P<0.05).Conclusion Impulse noise exposure leads to significant elevation of ABR thresholds and up-regulation of Gap-43 expression in inferior colliculus.Impulse noise exposure may induce auditory cortex prominent remodeling.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the autopsy characteristics, pathologic type, malfomation and genetic characteristics of complete atrioventricular septal defect (CAVSD).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty five cases of CAVSD were collected from Maternal and Child Hospital of Haidian District during Jan.2003 to Jan.2015. Autoptic material, clinical history and chromosome examination were reviewed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Among 35 cases of CAVSD between 18-38 gestational weeks, there were 26 cases with CAVSD A (74.3%, 26/35), 1 case with CAVSD B (2.8%, 1/35) and 8 cases with CAVSD C (22.8%, 8/35). Only CAVSD malformation was seen in 4 cases (11.4%, 4/35). Multiple malformations were seen in 31 cases (88.6%, 31/35). Combined malformations most frequently occurred in cardiovascular, respiratory and locomotor system. Among 15 cases with chromosome examination, chromosome aberrations was found in 13 cases (13/15) and trisomy-21 was found in 11 cases (11/15).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>CAVSD is a rare disease and CAVSD A is the most common type. CAVSD is usually combined with other malformations and chromosome aberrations.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze clinical features, outcomes and correlative prognostic factors of the disease.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Totally 14 newly diagnosed children with pancreatoblastoma at Shanghai Children's Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Beijing Children's Hospital were enrolled into this study between April 2003 and July 2013. The clinical features, surgery, chemotherapy protocol and prognostic factors of patients were retrospectively analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The median age at diagnosis was 6.5 years (0.6 to 11 years). Four cases had local tumor, 9 cases had local invasion, and in 1 case lung and liver metastasis was found at diagnosis. Increased serum α-fetoprotein were found in 8 cases (66-54,000 μg/L). In 8 patients the tumor was resected at first. The remaining 6 patients had biopsy and in four of them the tumor was completely resected after 4-6 cycles of chemotherapy. Except for 2 patients who gave up treatment, all the other patients fulfilled the comprehensive treatment including surgery and chemotherapy. One patient received radiofrequency ablation. The median follow-up period was 26 months(16-140 months). The estimated 2 year event free survival was (66.7 ± 13.6)%.On univariate analysis, non-resectable tumor(χ(2) = 6.663, P = 0.010), progression and metastases during treatment(χ(2) = 14.927, P = 0.000), poor response to treatment(χ(2) = 12.293, P = 0.000)were independent predictors for poor prognosis.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Complete resection and complete remission after treatment were excellent prognostic factors. Some initially unresectable disease seems to be resectable after adjuvant chemotherapy, which may be a key point of treatment strategy.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the curative effect and origin of antrochoanal polyp (ACP) with various approaches.@*METHOD@#Fifty-seven patients with ACP were included in the study. All the ACP patients were examined by preoperative endoscopy and computer tomographic (CT) scans. The patients were treated by various endoscopic approaches including endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy, inferior meatus antrostomy combined with endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy or endoscopic medial maxillectomy combined with endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy respectively. The relationship between polyp location in middle meatus and lesions in the antrum was explored during the surgery. Pathological examination was carried out and patients were regularly followed up after operation.@*RESULT@#Fifty-seven ACP develops from antral cyst. In 22 cases of endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy, two patients relapsed. In 17 cases of inferior meatus antrostomy combined with endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy, one patients relapsed. In 18 cases of endoscopic medial maxillectomy combined with endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy, no one relapsed.@*CONCLUSION@#Our data indicated that the ACP mainly originates in antral cyst, and capsule wall herniates to middle meatus through the antral ostium. ACP are common in unilateral, rare in both sides. The endoscopic approaches of middle meatus antrostomy and inferior meatus antrostomy combined with endoscopic middle meatus antrostomy might guarantee good prognosis. If the cyst is on the anterior wall of maxillary sinus, the approach of endoscopic medial maxillectomy can obtain a better vision and completely remove the lesions.

ABSTRACT

Late-life anxiety has a high prevalence and usually co-morbidity with cerebral-and cardiovascular diseases which in turn increases the disability and mortality in old people.The pathology of late-life anxiety is difference from adult with the character of GABAergic neuroplasticity dysfunction.The therapeutic strategy presently can only alleviate the anxious symptom but not ameliorate the neuroplasticity.Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a critical signaling molecule which regulates the GABAergic neuroplasticity,reduction of BDNF along with aging can induce GABAergic dysfunction which contributes to late-life anxiety.BDNF may exert anxiolytic effects by restoring the GABAergic plasticity and can be a potential therapeutic strategy of late-life anxiety.

ABSTRACT

This retrospective observational study aims to explore the treatment procedure and outcomes of arthroscopically assisted radiotherapy for diffuse pigmented villonodular synovitis [PVNS] of the knee joint. From September 2006 to August 2011, 28 diffuse PVNS patients were diagnosed and treated under arthroscopy. Twenty six underwent post-operative radiotherapy. All patients were followed up, and the average follow-up period was 54 months [range: 24 to 72 months]. All 26 patients who received external radiotherapy showed no recurrence at post-operative follow-up; The Lysholm knee joint function score increased from 54.3 +/- 9.0 at pre-operation to 71.2 +/- 6.7 at post-operation [paired t-test, t = -13.35, P<0.01]. Arthroscopic synovectomy is an ideal treatment for PVNS of the knee. Adjuvant post-operative external radiotherapy prevents the recurrence of diffuse PVNS

Objective To explore the effects of citalopram on interleukin-6 (IL-6) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in serum and cortisol in plasma of patients with depression syndrome.Methods 60 patients with depression in Kangci Hospital of Jiashan were randomly divided into two groups.31 cases in experimental group were treated with citalopram, 29 cases in control group were treated with imipramine.Levels of IL-6 and BDNF in serum and cortisol in plasma were compared pre-and post-treatment between two groups.Results Compared with pre-treatment, the levels of IL-6 and cortisol were lower(P<0.05), the level of BDNF was higher(P<0.05) post-treatment in two groups.Compared with control group, the levels of IL-6 and cortisol were lower(P<0.05), the level of BDNF was higher(P<0.05)in experimental group.Conclusion Citalopram has good curative effect on depression.The mechanism may be related to the decrease of IL-6 and cortisol levels, and the increase of brain derived neurotrophic factor level.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the diagnosis value of p16 combined with Ki67 protein in cervical lesions.Methods Totally 1 542 women with previous liquid-based cytology smear result of abnormality underwent a colposcopy-directed biopsy excision procedure.Biopsy specimens were detected by p16 and Ki67 immunostaining alongside hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining.A four-semiquantitative class was used to describe the immunohistochemical results.Results Biopsy results revealed 1 542 women included 473 women with negative for dysplasia (NEG),629 women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) Ⅰ,206 women with CIN Ⅱ,206 women with CINⅢ and 28 women with cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).The averageage of this study population was 34.47 years.CINs mainly occurred in women aged 20-29 years and 30-39 years.The positive rates of p16 in NEG,CIN Ⅰ,CIN Ⅱ,CINⅢ and SCC were 15.22%,60.25%,98.06%,99.51%,100.00% respectively,and the positive rates of Ki67 were 12.05%,63.12%,96.12%,98.06%,100.00% respectively.p16 expression and Ki-67 expression significantly increased with disease progression (p16:r =0.758,P =0.000 ; Ki67:r =0.773,P =0.000).Expression level of p16 was positively related with Ki-67 (r =0.774,P =0.000).The positive expression rates of p16 and Ki-67 of NEG were significantly lower than those of CIN and SCC (p16:x2 =1 127.46,P =0.000;Ki67:x2 =1 316.85,P =0.000).The positive expression rates of p16 and Ki-67 were markedly higher in CIN Ⅰ than those in CINⅡ,CINⅢⅢ and SCC (p16:x2 =500.19,P =0.000;Ki67:x2 =603.23,P=0.000).Conclusion Women aged 20-39 years are key subjects for cervical cancer screening.p16 and Ki67 immunohistochemistry is important in the ancillary diagnosis of cervical lesions.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the long-term survival of children and adolescents with lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) treated by a modified NHL-BFM-90 protocol.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From March 1998 to November 2010, 107 untreated patients with LBL (age <18 years) were enrolled and stratified into three groups (R1, R2 and R3), according to the stage of disease and response to induction chemotherapy. All patients received different intensive chemotherapy regimens based on a modified NHL-BFM-90 protocol. Total treatment duration was 2 years.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Of the 107 patients, 79 were boys and 28 were girls, with a median age of 10 years (range 2.5-18 years). Six patients (5.6%) were stage I/II, 101 (94.4%) stage III/IV. The R1, R2 and R3 groups accounted for 5.6%, 71.0% and 23.4%, respectively. 75.7% of the patients had T-LBL, and 24.3% was B-LBL. At a median follow-up duration of 60 months (range 1-186 months), 24 patients died. The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 75.5% and 77.8 % for all patients, 100.0% and 100.0% for group R1, 84.5% and 87.5 % for R2, 44.0% and 44.0% for R3, 72% and 73.5% for T-LBL, 86.4% and 88.5% for B-LBL, respectively. Myleosuppression was the major toxicity and need aggressive management.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The modified NHL-BFM-90 protocol is an effective therapy for children and adolescents with LBL in low and intermediate risk. T-LBL had the similar outcomes as B-LBL did. The patients in high-risk group had a poor survival and new protocols are needed.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effect of gross total resection on the local control and survival of patients with stage IV neuroblastoma (NB) and analyze the extent of surgical resection of primary tumors that affects patient survival. Methods: A total of 96 patients with stage Ⅳ NB who were admitted to the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center between January 2000 and December 2011 were analyzed. The patients were treated with combined-modality therapy, including chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiotherapy. The patients were divided according to the extent of surgical resection of primary tumor into the following groups: group A, biopsy or tumor removal of less than 50% of the primary lesion; group B, incomplete resection of more than 50% but less than 90% of the lesion; group C, removal of more than 90% of the lesion; and group D, complete resection with or without macroscopic residual tumors. The survival rates of each group were analyzed. Results: The median age of the 96 patients was 4.4 years, ranging from 1.2-18.8 years. The overall 3-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of the total patients were 32.8% and 36.7%, respectively. A total of 24 cases were assigned in group A, 10 in group B, 23 in group C, and 39 in group D. Subgroup analysis revealed that the 3-year PFS rate was 17.5% for group A, 20.0% for group B, 45.1% for group C, and 40.5% for group D. The PFS rates were not statistically significant-ly different between groups A and B (P=0.352) and between groups C and D (P = 0.792). However, the OS was higher in groups C and D than that in groups A and B. The 3-year PFS rates were 42.2% and 17.8% for groups C and D (P<0.001), respectively. Conclu-sion: Resection extension of more than 90% of the primary tumor combined with chemotherapy and (or) radiation therapy can improve the survival of patients with stage Ⅳ NB. However, this treatment modality does not affect the treatment outcomes for minimal gross tu-mor residuals.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigated the effect of post-operative primary site radiotherapy on stage Ⅳ neuroblastoma.Methods From Jan 2003 to Dem 2010,47 newly diagnosed stage Ⅳ neuroblastoma treated in Sun Yet-sen university cancer center.The treatment protocol for these patients were induction chemotherapy 4- 12 cycles,followed by surgery if possible,then 4-6 cycles consolidation chemotherapy and/or primary site radiotherapy and maintenance immunotherapy.The median age was 4 years old,the median induction chemotherapy cycles was 5.37 patients received resection of the primary tumor (total resection and nearly gross resection).24 out of 37 received primary site radiotherapy.ResultsThe followup rate was 89%.34 cases were followed up more than 36 months.For patients with or without postoperative primary site radiotherapy,the local recurrence rate were 13% ( 3/24 ) and 54% ( 7/13 ),respectively ( P =0.016),the 3-year local control rate were 84% and 47%,respectively ( χ2 =7.95,P =0.005 ).The 3-year overall survival rate were 56% and 28%,respectively ( χ2 =5.44,P =0.020 ). There was no severe radiation side effect. Conclusions This study indicated that postoperative primary site after induction chemotherapy and surgery could reduce the local recurrence rate and possibly improve the overall survival rate of stage Ⅳ neuroblastoma.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of smoking and smoking cessation on the phosphorylation of IKK-β in type 2 diabetic rats. Methods Forty-two six-week-old Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control(NC, n =7), diabetes control (DC, n =7), diabetes with smoking (DS, n = 14) and diabetes with smoking cessation(SC, n = 14). Rats in DS and SC groups were further assigned randomly into 8w and 12w subgroups. DS group was given passive smoking twice a day for 8 or 12 weeks, while SC group ceased passive smoking for 4 weeks after 8 or 12 weeks of smoking . Western blot method was used to detect the level of IKK-13 phosphorylation in skeletal muscle. Results Compared with the NC group,the phosphorylation of IKK-β protein in DC group was increased (0. 16±0. 05 vs 0. 30±0. 08, P < 0. 01). There was an increasing trend with the phosphorylation level of IKK-β in the DS (8w) subgroup, but there was no statistical difference between the DC group and SC(8w) subgroup (0. 40±0. 09 vs 0. 30±0. 08,0. 36±0. 10, P >0. 05). The phosphorylation level of IKK-β in DS(12w) group increased obviously, being significantly higher than that in the DC group and SC (12w) subgroup(0. 74 ± 0. 11 vs 0.30±0.08,0.35±0.07,P < 0.01). Conclusion With the prolongation of smoking duration, the phosphorylation of IKK-β in type 2 diabetic rats increased. After smoking cessation, the phosphorylation of IKK-β decreased. The phosphorylation of IKK-β may be involved in the mechanism by which smoking causes type 2 diabetes.
